P5 Billion Worth Of Drugs Washed Up On UK Shores

DRUGS ON LIFE VESTS – It’s not everyday that you see over P5 billion worth of illegal drugs washing up on your local beach.

Recently, a stash of over £80 million worth of cocaine washed up on the shores of Hastings and Newhaven in East Sussex. Residents near the area spotted the plastic bags attached to life jackets to make them float.

Furthermore, samples taken from the bags confirmed that it was in fact, cocaine inside. Additionally, forensics would carryout a full investigation of the items.

According to police reports, the total weight of the stash is roughly 960 kilos. With this amount of drugs, the street value was estimated at around £80 million. Meanwhile, Martin Grace, Branch Commander of the National Crime Agency (NCA) said:

his is a significant amount of Class A drugs which we think originated in South America, but we are keeping an open mind about how the drugs washed up here and where the end destination might have been.

However, this isn’t the first time the UK had a peculiar encounter with drug smuggling. Earlier this year, Border Police seized 946 kg of cocaine worth £76m hidden among bananas.

Still, with the containment of the illegal drugs on the beach, Home Secretary Priti Patel stated that this was a win for the community. Based on an article from Unilad, he said:

We are sending a strong signal to criminals in the UK and abroad seeking to smuggle drugs into or through the UK: your efforts will fail and we will use every part of our law enforcement powers to stop drugs from coming into the UK
