The operation was sparked by a complaint from a businesswoman who claimed that the aforementioned staff requested P20,000 in return for the release of her impounded mini-dump truck, according to Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr., director of the Police Regional Office in Caraga Region (PRO-13).
The sum was reduced to P5,000.00 after negotiations. Tering-Tering was apprehended by a joint force of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), Mindanao Field Unit (MFU), Cabadbaran City Police Station, and 2nd Agusan del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company.
The suspect was caught red-handed collecting PHP2,000 marked money from an employee inside the HPGT office, according to Caramat. The defendant is now being held in Cabadbaran City Police Station’s custody pending documentation and the filing of relevant criminal charges.
“We do not tolerate any wrongdoings of our personnel committed by either our commissioned or non-commissioned officers to advance their personal interest. Any PNP personnel involved in crimes and illegal activities shall be penalized based on the provisions of the law,” Caramat said.
