COVID-19 Priority List Refusers Should Get Least Priority – Palace Spox
COVID-19 PRIORITY LIST REFUSERS – Those listed in the government’s COVID-19 priority list but refuse to get vaccinated should be placed in the back of the list according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Philippines has began rolling out its vaccination program. With this, the government aims to inoculate over 70 million Filipinos by November.
However, even with the availability of some vaccines, many Filipinos opt not to get vaccinated, especially with China’s Sinovac vaccine. Instead, some had expressed that they would rather wait for Western vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna.
But, with the scarcity of other vaccine brands, Roque believes that those who don’t accept available vaccines should be placed at the back of the list. According to a report from ABS-CBN, Roque said:
Pero matatapos na po iyong kaniyang prayoridad. Kumbaga, back to the end of the line. That’s only fair…
Naiintindihan naman po natin ‘yan. Talaga namang sa ating kasaysayan, ang mga Pilipino ay mas humahanga sa mga [galing] stateside
Furthermore, he emphasized that although we have preference for Western vaccines, Filipinos should think about protecting themselves and their families against COVID-19 with what’s available. Currently, Sinovac is the most widely available vaccine in the country.
As of now, there are 8.279 million doses of Sinovac circulating the Philippines with at least 4.3 million already being administered. Because of this, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said they would study “Vaccine mixing” to capitalize on the availability of Sinovac doses.
