Mentally-Ill Youth Killed During Tupada Raid After Allegedly Intended Shot by Police
An 18-year-old mentally-ill youth killed after he allegedly shot by police during the raid in illegal cockfighting (tupada) in Valenzuela.
According to GMA News, during a raid on a cockpit in Valenzuela City, an 18-year-old man with a psychiatric illness allegedly resisted and was shot by police. Edwin Arnigo, the victim, was killed in an illegal cockfight raid in barangay Lingunan.
Arnigo allegedly tried to snatch the police officer’s gun and was shot in the process. The victim was rushed to the hospital but died as a result of a bullet wound in his side.
Two people were detained at the illegal cockpit, according to police, and those who were captured reportedly resisted arrest. Some even throw a chicken with a “Tari” (sharp blade) attached, according to the police, and some even clash with the cops.

Helen, the victim’s mother, claims that the child simply said goodbye to her to go buy something, based on the report. However, soon after, someone came to their house and told them that the cops had shot her son.
The victim’s mother didn’t think her son would be able to avoid being arrested. Helen maintained that her son, who was frail in comparison to the cops, would not provoke a confrontation.
Helen’s family was also informed that the victim had been fired at close range. Helen said that when her son died, cops allegedly dragged him like a chicken to the cockpit.
When asked why the police did this, the mother said, “Hindi ko alam sir, siguro palabasin nila na nagtutupa yung anak ko. Eh paano magtupada yung anak ko eh takot yung sa tari.”
As part of the continuing investigation, the officer who shot the victim, Police Senior Master Sergeant Christopher Salcedo, and three other officers involved in the raid have been held in restrictive detention. General Guillermo Eleazar, the Philippine National Police Chief, vowed a prompt and impartial investigation.
