CHED Adopts Flexible Learning As New Norm in College

CHED Speaks on “Flexible Learning” As the New Norm

CHED – The Commission on Higher Education officially adopted the “flexible learning” as a new normal in the college level.

The educational system is one of those that were greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines. It has been a year now since PH recorded its first COVID-19 cases.

Amid the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country, both the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) shifted the delivery of the lessons to the students. Instead of the usual face-to-face classes, students were given modules or attend classes online.

The safety of the students is the number one priority in the decision to change the teaching method. Students stay at the comfort of their homes.

Recently, the Commission on Higher Education released a new decision. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, CHED adopted “flexible learning” as a new normal in college.

According to the report, CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera explained that the “flexible learning” method will give colleges and universities the opportunity to decide on what works best for their students. It is expected to continue in the next years amid the new normal in the country.

De Vera expressed that schools can deliver lessons online or offline – through modules with regards to the latter, synchronous or asynchronous. He further expressed that colleges and universities may also combine online and face-to-face classes like what is done by medical schools.

Some schools in the higher education previously appealed for a limited face-to-face classes most especially those with medical courses as there are certain activities that cannot be taught well online.
