Duterte Orders PNP to Arrest People Wearing Mask Improperly in Public

Duterte Orders Arrest to People Failed to Wear Face Mask in Public

President Rodrigo Duterte orders arrest against people who are not wearing and failed to observed proper wearing of face mask in public.

Duterte directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to arrest and detain violators of the government’s mask-wearing law in a televised speech, citing the need to improve compliance with health protocols to combat the rise in coronavirus cases.

“Yung iba, for compliance lang, naglalagay ng mask pero nakalabas ang ilong. My orders to the police are those who are not wearing their masks properly in order to protect the people kasi kung hindi mo madepensahan ang publiko, to arrest them and detain them, investigate them why they are doing it,” the President said.

To avoid a rise in COVID-19 incidents, the president believes that the directive on the wearing and proper use of face masks should be restricted. Face masks are one of the government’s minimum public health requirements in all areas under community quarantine to curb the spread of virus.

“You have nine hours, detain mo. Imbestigahin mo siya kung bakit ganoon ang behavior nila,” he added.

According to Duterte, he felt obliged to be stringent in upholding the mask law in order to protect the public from the disease. He reminded everyone to properly wear their masks, which should cover both their noses and mouths.

“Pag hindi ko ganunin, hindi ko kayo higpitan, walang mangyayari,” he said.

“Ako dito hirap na hirap. Pawala na pera natin sa bangko tapos sige pa rin kayo galaw nang galaw ng hindi tama, eh mapupunta sa stasyon,” the President added.

Although some people were violating the mask code, Duterte said he was having trouble dealing with the pandemic. Mask wearing would be a “stupid necessity” if the world were living in normal times, he said.
