Employers Group Expresses Opposition to Provision of Additional Days Off for Employees

Some employers group have expressed their opposition to the proposed additional leaves for employees saying “Napakadami na”.

On Monday (May 3, 2021), the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) opposes giving employees with more days off. The group said that the workers can still use their remaining vacation and sick leaves.

The statement came after a bill ordering a 10-day paid leave for workers was filed in the Senate and House of Representatives receive a proposal of 5-day mental wellness leave amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Napakadami na, lalo pa nga sa mga babae. ‘Pag kinuwenta mo yung mga leave, pati maternity leave, halos wala nang matira sa pagtatrabaho,” the group said.

ECOP president Sergio Ortiz that employees have too much leaves already especially for women. He also stressed out that almost none remain for work if they will compute. He said that workers should use their existing leaves instead of desiring for additional leaves.

“Hindi lang hindi timely, napakaraming leave na naiisip, meron namang existing leave na magagamit. Pag-isipan muna natin paano makakagawa ng jobs at paano gaganda ang ating trabaho at marami sa’tin ang makapasok.” Ortiz said.

Ortiz also reiterated that employees should think first of how they can create and improve their jobs.
