10 Student Activists Arrested for Breaking Health Protocols in Zambales

The authorities arrested 10 student activists for breaking the health protocols during Labor Day protest in Zambales.

On Saturday (May 1, 2021), ten student members of the League of Filipino Students (LFS) have been arrested by the authorities at the boundary of the towns of Subic and Castillejos during their Labor Day protest.

The offenders have been held for allegedly violating the safety protocols during the protest amid the coronavirus pandemic. A member of the group explained that they were heading at Angeles City in Pampanga when cops apprehended them at a checkpoint.

The LFS members have been detained and scheduled to undergo COVID-19 tests.

Meanwhile, other militant groups holding a rally across Metro Manila during the Labor Day. Some portions of Quezon Avenue and España Boulevard heading to Manila have been temporarily closed to the motorists.

Other protesters also violated the quarantine guidelines after failing to observe social distancing due to the massive amount of people who joined the rally. The organizer repeatedly reminded the participants to obey the health protocols.

Tatay Elmer Cordero of the transport group Piston-6 also joined the protest and urged the government to allow public jeepneys to operate again after he has been arrested last year for violating the safety protocols.
