Netizens Slam Bong Go For “East Kingdom Of Sulu” Statement In Cebu
EAST KINGDOM OF SULU – Senator Bong Go was the subject of Ridicule during his speech at the 500th anniversary of the Spaniard’s clash with Cebuano natives.
Yesterday, Go said that Lapu-Lapu may not have been a Cebuano. Instead, he revived a long-lost theory, which Historians confirmed as fake, that Lapu-Lapu was actually from Mindanao, the home region of President Rodrigo Duterte.
This served as a bouncing point for Go to make comparisons in later parts of his speech between the Philippines’ first hero, and the current President. Following suit, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque also stated that “Duterte is my modern day Lapu-Lapu”.

Meanwhile, during the speech, Go said:
“Mahalaga po na tayo ay magbalik tanaw sa ating kasaysasayn, ngunit mahalaga rin na tutuwid tayo sa nakaraan upang maunawaan natin ang kasalukuyan at lakas loob nating haharapin ang kinabukasan”.
Afterward, he cited that he and President Duterte are “Mindanaoan” and “Bisaya” and that both regions should have something to be proud of. Then, Go continues and cites “another version” of history based on the studies of “Abraham Ichirani Idjirani”.
According to Go, Lapu-Lapu was a Moro, who was ordered by the “East Kingdom Of Sulu” to protect the “707 islands” of the Philippines. Similarly, in August 2018, Duterte said that Lapu-Lapu was also a Moro who was stuck in the Visayas.
As a response, Cebuano archaeologist Jose Eleazar Bersales said that he had already warned of “idiotic claims” as the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mactan drew close.
“I warned that as the 500th anniversary of the historic Battle of Mactan approached, there will be idiotic claims about him, about his being Muslim and Bornean at that”, he said.
Likewise, netizens on Facebook also expressed dismay with this post:
