Angel Locsin Community Pantry: Lessons Learned From Death Incident

What went wrong in the Angel Locsin Community Pantry?

Angel Locsin Community Pantry – These are the lesson that can be learned from the unexpected death of a senior citizen in a charitable endeavor that the actress organized for her 36th birthday.

One of the beautiful traits that Angel has shown over the years is her compassion for other people, especially for the less fortunate Pinoys. The community pantry that she organized a few days ago in Brgy. Holy Spirit in Quezon City was not the first charitable work that she did.

However, this one went controversial as 67-year-old Rolando dela Cruz, who was waiting to avail the grocery items, died. Columnist Maria Romina Austria wrote in her article in pna.gov.ph that Dr. Richard Mata, pediatrician and a motivational speaker, already called out to the actress minutes before the unexpected incident happened.

Paki fire na lang din ng organizer niyo. Dahil kayo po ang mapapahiya at ang mamamayan ang mapapahamak. Unless di po kayo naniniwala sa Covid. Sa suffocation at heatstroke ka una mamatay dyan,” the doctor said in his post around 10 in the morning. At 11 a.m., reports circulated about the tragedy that happened to the senior citizen.

Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año said that what happened at the Angel Locsin Community Pantry showed a lack of coordination. The official said that at least, there should have been coordination with the barangay officials.

“It’s the organizer’s responsibility to impose the health standards protocol. That’s the primary reason why they have to coordinate with the LGUs (local government units) so that the latter can provide assistance,” Año said.

Several netizens pointed out that organizing a community pantry in a barangay is really tough but taking care of the whole country is a much tougher job. It is known to many that Angel is a critic of the current administration. Supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte stressed that the actress should now have an idea of how difficult it is to lead the country.

Here are some of the comments from netizens.

“If you can’t even manage a crowd of 1,000 during your birthday pantry, then where do you find the audacity to insult and criticize someone who’s doing his damn best to herd 110 million Pinoys?

“Barangay lang yan, Angel Locsin. Mahirap ba ang trabaho ng President??? Siguro naman masasagot mo na yan ngayong naranasan mo na (It’s just one village, Angel Locsin. Is it hard to be a country’s President???? Maybe you can answer that yourself now that you have experienced it).”

What can you say about this?
