SK President in Laguna was Gunned Down in Front of His Family in Their House
A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) President was gunned down in front of his family member including his 4-year-old son in their house in Lumban, Laguna
The victim was identified as Lumban Sangguniang Kabataan president Renzo Matienzo. He was shot dead in front of his family in Lumban, Laguna on Tuesday, April 13.
According to police, an unknown gunman wearing a bonnet barged into the youth leader’s home and shot him. The 26-year-old Matienzo sustained 10 gunshot wounds and died on the spot.
The victim’s family said the suspect ordered them, including Renzo’s 4-year-old son, to lie face down as he shot the victim. They added the suspect told them that Matienzo was only his target.
Authorities are now looking at two possible angles in the murder of the youth leader. Police Capt. Jose Marie Peña, chief of police of Lumban Municipal Police Station said two perpetrators entered the house of the victim while two others just waited outside.
The information is also based on the testimony of those who witnessed the crime, he said. Peña added that politics could be another reason as many claimed that he would run for the councilor position.
“May balita po kasing tatakbong konsehal ng bayan, tapos tinitingnan ko rin po kung ito ba’y may kagalit. Dahil ito naman po ay Lumban, kasi nga po ang Lumban ay kilala sa bayan na sabi nila na ano po daw sa droga mga involvement sa droga, kaya hindi rin po nawala sa akin tingnan din po ‘yung bersyon na ganun,” he said.
