DepEd Speaks On Students’ Modules & Other School Requirements

DepEd Discourages Students From Making Other People Do School Requirements for Them

DEPED – The Department of Education spoke on the modules of the students and other requirements for school amid blended learning.

The educational system is one of the fields greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines. For the current school year, the 2020-2021, it has not started in June which is usually the start of the school calendar in the country.

Instead, the class opening was moved in August 2020 and then further moved in October 2020. It was in preparation for the blended learning since face-to-face classes were not allowed as gatherings are prevented amid the fight against the spread of coronavirus.

Under blended learning, the delivery of the lessons to the students is through modules and online classes. Students who chose the modular process will get the modules prepared by the teachers, answer it at home and then submit it again on the deadline set.

For those who are under online classes, the classes will be held virtually based on the schedule set and there are school requirements to be submitted to the teachers virtually as well.

However, amid the implementation of blended learning, it has reached the Department of Education (DepEd) that there are practices wherein the school work of a student is done by a parent or another student in exchange of an amount. It is tagged as the “Sagot for Sale” scheme.

The Education Department expressed discouragement on the said scheme. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DepEd Undersecretary Jesus Mateo stressed that it is a form of dishonesty as the target is to assess the learning of the students and not the parents or someone who did the work for them.

“Okay makakatulong ka, pero sana iyong tulong na iyon, hindi iyong ikaw na mismo ang gagawa ng dapat na report. Dapat tutulungan lang niya, igu-guide lang niya,” Mateo expressed.

Based on the report, the DepEd Undersecretary said that the effects will be on the students in case they did not learn from their subjects. He expressed that there are a lot of ways to help the students and it does not include doing all their school requirements for them.

According to Mateo, it is the students who will suffer in case they did not learn because someone did it for them. He encourages the parents or the guardians to just help and guide the students.
