Drilon Wants Duterte To Call Special Congress To Tackle Authorization Of Cash-Aid Funds
DRILON WANTS SPECIAL CONGRESS – Recently, the government imposed an extension of the enhanced community quarantine in the NCR Plus Bubble.
However, the Palace earlier stated that the government was incapable of giving out more cash-aid to low income families. As such, the mere P1,000 aid would be the only reprieve poor families get amid the extension.
Because of this, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon called on Duterte to schedule a Special Congress to tackle authorizing another round of “ayuda”. According to an article from Inquirer, Drilon noted how there were still “intelligence” and “anti-insurgency funds”.
He explained that funds from these could be transferred to help support poor families amid these trying times. As per the article, he said:
Maraming intelligence fund, anti-insurgency fund. Sa akin, kailangang tumawag ng special session ang Pangulo para po matugunan ito. Mag-realign ng mga items na hindi kailangan
Furthermore, he said that those in the Senate were willing to go back to debate the proposed law that could provide Filipinos with aid. “Mayroong sapat na kapangyarihan ang Kongreso na ibinigay sa Pangulo para mag-realign ng budget, doon sa Bayanihan 2“, he added.
Additionally, Drilon emphasized that sayin there’s no extension of cash-aid due to a lack of funds was adherently wrong. He explained that the government should extend its assistance to Filipinos as they were struggling due to the government’s poor response to the pandemic.
