What’s the profession of Chin Chin Gutierrez now?
Speculations surfaced that former actress Chin Chin Gutierrez is now a nun after she left the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry.
Chin Chin’s career in showbiz boomed in the 1990s as she was considered as one of the beautiful faces in the industry. However, she left her acting career and news about her personal life subsided.
In 2019, a Facebook Post from netizen Vicksay M. Josol caught the attention of the online community as she stated that the former actress entered the Carmelite Convent and pursued the calling of being a nun.
However, in a recent article from the PEP stated that there was no confirmation on the part of the former actress about this. The showbiz news site contacted Josol and asked if where the information came from, the answer of the netizen was that she as not the original source but she just reposted it.
PEP also contacted three people who do not know each other regarding the speculations that Chin Chin Gutierrez is now a nun. A nun from the Carmelite Missionaries in Cavite said that if the former actress is being called now as Sister Lourdes, whose real name is Maria Carminia Lourdes Cynthia Arnaldo Gutierrez, does not automatically mean that she is a nun.
“Iba-iba ang Carmelites. Yung Carmelite nuns, yung mga cloistered, hindi sila lumalabas. Kami, Carmelites missionaries, missionaries, lumalabas po kami,” the Carmelite Missionaries explained.
A priest from Philippine Carmelite who personally knows the former actress said that he thinks the news about her being a nun is not true. He added that he has not contacted Chin Chin for a long time now.
“Contemplative nun ang tawag sa mga madre na ang apostolate e prayers. Hindi sila lumalabas sa convent. Yung sisters naman, usually active, involved sila sa school ministry o parish ministry. At least college graduate, yung mature na talagang gusto niya na maglingkod at hindi dahil naengganyo lang. It really needs discernment din. It’s the age of reason, the priest explained.
He also said that in order to make sure if the speculations are true, the particular order where the former actress should be asked.
In addition to this, a source of PEP said that Chin Chin Gutierrez is not a nun but a lay worker, characterized as a person working in a religious organization but not a member of the clergy. It was said that her duty is to plant mushrooms and was assigned first in Cavite before she was transferred to Tarlac.
