CUTTING IN LINE – In this topic, we are going to learn and discuss what the definition of the phrase “cutting in line”.
By definition, it means to push into a line of people in order to be served or dealt with before one’s turn.
It is also known as line/queue jumping, butting, barging, budging, skipping, breaking, ditching, shorting, pushing in, or cutsies.
It is the act of entering a line or queue with any position other than the end of it. The act is considered rude in some cases, especially in regards to the policy of first come, first served which is implemented in most queue areas.
When someone cuts the line. a negative response from those at the back is usually expected since they have been in line and deserved to be served next when someone up ahead drags them back via this act.
In other cases, this can be seen on roadways or, basically vehicles. Drivers who attempt to bypass traffic by waiting until the last possible moment before merging are considered cutting and are the usual instigators of road rage.
In airports, cutting in line is allowed. This is in order for pregnant women, adults accompanying small children, the elderly and the physically disabled to board an airplane first, regardless of their seat, class or assignment.
