Roque Says Duterte Cancer Remark Simply A Joke, Nothing To Worry About
ROQUE ON DUTERTE CANCER STATEMENT – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque emphasized that Duterte’s recent statement regarding him having cancer was nothing but a joke.
During Duterte’s public address on Thursday night, he suddenly coughed. Instead of joking that it might be COVID-19 like he previously did, he said that “it could be cancer”.
Since then, Duterte has been criticized for joking about something as sensitive as cancer which affects millions of people. Meanwhile, Roque noted that it has always been in the President’s nature to joke around.
“So I think that is really a joke of the President and should not be taken to mean na may cancer talaga siya”, Roque said. Furthermore, Roque also assured the public that the Palace would disclose details if Duterte has a serious condition.
However, last year, the President was diagnosed with a condition wherein his Barrett’s esophagus was deteriorating. Moreover, his doctor advised him to monitor his diet as it could progress to stage 1 cancer.
