DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez Tests Positive for COVID-19 Again

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said that he tested positive for coronavirus disease again 3 months after he first caught the illness.

On Thursday morning (March 18, 2021), Ramon Lopez announced that he tested positive again for COVID-19. He was asymptomatic and hoping that it was a false positive and would take another test for confirmation.

“[I have] been wearing mask shield and distancing outside home but still got hit… [I] have immediately started isolation now,” Lopez said.

The Trade chief said that he would set virtual appointments and conduct online meetings to avoid physical interaction with other people. He first caught COVID-19 last December 2021 but had no interaction with President Duterte.

Aside from Lopez, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque also tested positive for the respiratory disease earlier this week. Three Cabinet members of President Duterte including Eduardo Año, Leonor Briones and Mark Villar tested positive for COVID-19.

The Philippines is one of the countries hardly hit by the coronavirus pandemic. The health department recorded over 4,000 new COVID-19 cases for the sixth day straight yesterday.
