“Hindi Palpak Ang Gobyerno”: Who Does Roque Blame For COVID Spike?

Roque Says “Hindi Palpak Ang Gobyerno” Amid #DutertePalpak Trend

COVID-19 SPIKE IN PH – Amid the surge in daily coronavirus cases, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque defended the Palace saying “Hindi Palpak Ang Gobyerno”.

Ever since the start of the government’s pandemic response. Roque has been adamant that the government was doing an “excellent job” in handling the pandemic. However, the statistics would say otherwise.

Currently, the Philippines faces an extremely concerning trend in daily COVID-19 cases. Compared to last week, the country has seen a 50% increase in the number of daily cases and a 75% in deaths.

Furthermore, it was August of 2020 when the Philippines saw these levels. But, a year into the strictest lockdown in the country, the number of cases is still rising.

However, despite all of this, Roque continues the narrative that the government is doing well against the virus. According to an article from Inquirer, Roque stated:

Tingnan po natin ang datos, napababa po talaga natin ang kaso at itong buwan ng Marso lang sumipa muli“.

So, if it’s not the government or the people, who is to blame for the spike?

Roque explained that the emergence of COVID-19 variants was the primary cause of the recent surge. “Tingin ko naman iyong kumpirmasyon na nasa Pilipinas na iyong mga bagong variants at itong mga bagong variants na mas nakakahawa“, he said.

Afterward, he emphasized that this was one of the reasons of the spike and not because of the government’s incompetence. Likewise, Roque also defended the reopening of the economy after talking about a more contagious strain emerging.

“Ayaw ko pong isipin na ito’y dahil sa pagbubukas ng ekonomiya. Huwag po nating sisihin iyong ating pagbubukas ng ekonomiya. Hindi po talaga pagbubukas ng ekonomiya ang naging problema”
