11,000 COVID-19 Cases Daily Possible Says OCTA If Trend Continues

11,000 Daily COVID-19 Cases By End Of March If Surge Continues: OCTA

11,000 COVID-19 CASES DAILY – According to the OCTA research group, the Philippines could see the number of daily cases spike to 11,000 by the end of March.

Currently, the Philippines faces a massive surge in daily COVID-19 cases. According to data from the Department of Health, the country saw a 50% increase in daily cases and a 75% increase in deaths compared to last week alone.

Furthermore, the current number of daily cases is similar to that of the spike in August last year. However, OCTA already predicted that the Philippines could see 5,000 daily cases by the end of March. But, it seems as their prediction came a bit earlier than expected.

Because of this, OCTA now says that the country could see an increase of 10,000 to 11,000 daily cases if the trend continues. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Researcher Guido David said:

Right now, the numbers that you mentioned, 8,000 to 9,000, they have now been upped to about 10 to 11,000 by the end of this month unfortunately

He explained that increased mobility caused by reopening of the economy and a decreased compliance with health protocols are among the factors of the surge. Additionally, the Philippines’ economy reopened amid the presence of more contagious COVID-19 “mutations of concerns”.

Yesterday, the Department of Health reported 5,404 new coronavirus cases. This becomes the fourth highest recorded number since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak.
