Calapan Mayor Shifts Statement On Sinas, Now Says He Complied

Calapan Mayor Shifts Statement On Sinas Regarding Violation Of Travel Laws

CALAPAN MAYOR SHIFTS STATEMENT – Recently, Netizens lauded Calapan City Mayor Arnan Panaligan for being vocal about upholding the law.

Last week, Panaligan called out Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas and said that he should be “held responsible for his reckless behavior”. However, during an interview with ABS-CBN, Panaligan shifted the narrative.

He explained that although Sinas didn’t go through traditional channels of the travel laws, he did so through an “online registration”. As per the interview he said:

As far as we are concerned, nag-online registration si General Sinas at nakatanggap siya ng confirmation. Kasi nga ay maluwag na ngayon per IATF“.

In Early March, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced an easing of travel restrictions for government officials. He said that a negative PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and a quarantine is no longer required when traveling to other provinces for work.

Likewise, Panaligan clarified that Sinas went through the online registration and that he received confirmation of his request. “Nacorrect namin ‘yan. Hindi pa naman ma-establish na merong violation of protocol kasi ang required lang naman ay online registration at confirmation. So dumaan siya sa prosesong iyon“, he added.

Lastly, when it comes to his statement, the mayor said he is “deferring” his “final judgement on the matter”. Additionally, he said that his office is also doing their “own investigation” regarding the incident.
