Billiard Legend Efren “Bata” Reyes Arrested During The Raid in Illegal Billiard

The Magician and billiard legend Efren “Bata” Reyes was arrested during the police raid in billiard hall amid the prohibition due to the pandemic.

The video showing billiard’s Hall of Famer Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes was among those arrested by police and barangay officials while playing billiards despite the government banning it due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The video, first released on Facebook, shows police and local officials confiscating billiard equipment and arresting people in the pool hall. According to police the game was held without a permit.

The video was immediately removed from Facebook. However, a longer video footage appeared on YouTube showing Reyes wearing the same clothes and without a mask playing against an unknown opponent.

The video already includes the arrest of players including the billiard legend. Based on the audio of the video, Reyes and other players, organizers and spectators of the pool game were taken to the barangay hall for violating strict quarantine protocols due to the pandemic.

It is not clear when or where the incident took place. Like some other sports, the IATF nor the government prohibits the playing of billiards especially in public places which violates health protocols. It also prohibits the presence of large groups of people or gatherings.

One of the cops can be heard speaking in the video which is two minutes and 50 seconds long saying the game has no permit. According to the report, the former world pool champion is now 66 years old and belongs to the age group who is not allowed to leave the house unless there is an important appointment.
