COVID-19 Tests At Checkpoints: Manila Governors Propose New Protocol

COVID-19 Tests At Checkpoints Proposed To Detect Asymptomatic Carriers

COVID-19 TESTS AT CHECKPOINTS – Recently, Metro Manila has seen a spike in daily COVID-19 cases as quarantine restrictions ease.

Furthermore, OCTA research group warned that the spike may be due to undiscovered cases of new COVID-19 variants. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) representative to the Philippines said the increase in new cases is just a “spike” and not a “second wave”.

As such, governors of Metro Manila proposed a coronavirus test at entry points of their provinces. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Marinduque Gov. Presbitero Velasco, president of the League of Provinces said:

Ang hinihiling po namin para mayroon naman po kaming paraan para malaman po kung positive ‘yung papasok. Upon arrival dun sa port of entry na iallow po ang LGU na magprescribe ng PCR test, saliva test or antigen test

Furthermore, he explained that a lot of travelers are asymptomatic. However, the current protocol for traveling doesn’t require documents such as travel authority, medical certificate, and quarantine if no symptoms are present.

Afterward, Velasco said that those found positive in the RT-PCR test or the antigen test will be placed under quarantine. Then, a confirmatory swab test would be done.
