Less Filipinos Follow Social Distancing Than Wearing Face Masks, Shields

Less Filipinos Follow Social Distancing Says OCTA Research Group

SOCIAL DISTANCING – According to a Tugon Ng Masa Survey, less Filipinos follow social distancing a year into the coronavirus pandemic.

When the COVID-19 outbreak spread in the Philippines, health protocols were strict. In fact, we had one of the strictest quarantines in the entire South East Asia.

Furthermore, authorities strictly imposed wearing face masks and face shields especially in public. Along with this, establishments such as malls won’t let you in without a face mask and face shield with you.

However, this strict implementation falls when it comes to the most basic health protocols – social distancing. According to the OCTA Research group’s Tugon ng Masa survey, only 67% of Filipinos observe social distancing.

This is much lower than the 91% wearing face masks and 82% wearing face shields. Based on an article from GMA, the researchers said:

While majority of adult Filipinos comply with the minimum Public Health Standards set by the Department of Health, less are able to observe social distancing

Moreover, the study also revealed that only 64% of Filipinos regularly wear face shields when going out. Meanwhile, 89% of adult Filipinos go out with a face mask ready.
