The Jesuit priest Fr. Joaquin Bernas has already passed away at the age of 88 but no further details have been given about his death.

On Saturday (March 6, 2021), Dean Emeritus, Fr. Joaquin G. Bernas, S.J of Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Law School has passed away, according to the tweet by one of his mentees Dean Mel Sta. Maria of the Far Eastern University Institute of Law.

The priest has been confined at the Medical City due to an infection. He left the hospital last March 4, 2021 but eventually passed away at the Ateneo Jesuit Residence around 1:45 am today.

Bernas was born on July 8, 1932 and served as a former dean of the ADMU Law School. The late dead has a bachelor of arts degree in English, Latin and Greek classics as even took some advance learning abroad.

The Ateneo Law School community has also mourned after learning the death of Bernas and paid tribute to his achievement. The community also lauded the priest for dedicating his life to service.

“We take solace in the knowledge that this was an earthly life filled with meaning and purpose. And earthly life dedicated to service, to standards of excellence, to the greater glory of God,” ADMU Law school said.
