PLDT Remains Undaunted to the Launching of DITO Telecommunication
One of the leading telecommunications company in the Philippines PLDT remain undaunted to the new telco player DITO telecommunications.
With the impending launch of the new DITO Telecommunity Corporation will not be able to beat the long -time PLDT Inc. Based on the report, DITO is scheduled to start their operation in March 8 in some key areas in Visayas and Mindanao, before the nationwide operation.
However, PLDT officials announced the steps they are taking against the upcoming new contender in the industry in a virtual press conference, Thursday. PLDT said that the new telco player cannot get even close to their achievements.
“We cannot comment on what DITO is doing, but what I can really tell you is as far as we have information in the areas DITO is launching, they cannot [get] even close on the coverage we have already,” said PLDT-Smart Chief Technology and Information Advisor Joachim Horn.

So far, according to Dito, it has built 1,900 cell sites that can cover 37% of the population. Based on the report of Remate, PLDT seems to have underestimated this by saying they have more than 16,000 cell sites.
“So, therefore they will take a long time to catch up, even in remote areas because it’s not easy to roll out a network in no time,” said Horn, pointing out that more than 16,000 cell sites have PLDT as well as another Globe telco player.
“I would not be too concerned about DITO because we will always be ahead of our network. We will not stop working every day. We are benchmarking ourselves on a daily basis and we want to step forward and we want to lead the industry from a performance perspective. We are not done by no means,” he added.
The PLDT leadership has even announced an increase in its funding from P88 billion to P92 billion this year. “We will continue to push, I think this is the best defense to whoever wants to challenge us,” said Horn.
