Dueñas Town Village Chief Arrested In House Raid

DUEÑAS TOWN – Operatives of the CIDG and cops of Dueñas town police station raided the house of the village chief of Barangay Calang there.

According to a report from Panay News, operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the police in the said town in Iloilo province raided the house of the said chief, identified as Joewinny Giganto, at around 5:30 AM Tuesday, according to Panay News.

Recovered from the suspect were a grenade and a .45-caliber pistol that were loaded with seven live ammunitions, according to the police.

Operatives have arrested the 59-year-old chief whom they suspected to be a gunrunner and a leader of a “gun-for-hire” group.

The operation was based on a search warrant issued by Judge Domingo Casiple of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 68.

Spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong said that the Giganto Group was “involved in the proliferation of loose firearms and gunrunning activities in the province of Iloilo and nearby provinces.”

After the raid, Giganto was brought to the CIDG detention cell. He will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and violation of RA 9516 or the illegal possession of explosives, based on the report.
