Prison Riot In Haiti Leaves 25 Dead, More Than 400 Escape After Violent Clash
PRISON RIOT IN HAITI LEAVES 25 DEAD – Over 400 prisoners managed to escape from jail after a prison breakout in Haiti that left 25 people dead.
However, not only prisoners and jail officers were killed. Reports said that innocent civilians were also killed by the escaped prisoners.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, Secretary of Communication Frantz Exantus said:
Twenty-five people died including six prisoners and Divisional Inspector Paul Hector Joseph who was in charge of the prison
Additionally, one of the killed inmates was identified as a gang leader named “Arnei Joseph”. Upon reaching a checkpoint 75 miles from the prison, police gunned him down after going on an attack.
“Arnel Joseph was killed while attacking a police patrol which had stopped the motorcycle he was on. The police responded and Arnel Joseph is dead“, said Exantus.
As per the article, Joseph was allegedly the main man of one of Haiti’s top criminal networks. He was arrested in 2019 and even tried to escape from prison last July 2020.
However, he advertised his plan to escape on social media a few days prior to his attempted escape. As such, authorities quickly thwarted his plans.
