Founder Of Sugar Daddy Online Platform Arrested
SUGAR DADDY FOUNDER ARRESTED – Malaysian police recently arrested the founder of the controversial dating platform, Sugarbook.
On the surface, Sugarbook provides women an opportunity to find themselves older men who can support them financially. Last year, when the pandemic began, there was even a spike in Filipinas that registered on the website.
According to its website, the range for sugar babies in the Philippines is between 18-34. Additionally, there have been a recorded 28,310 sugar babies in the Philippines using Sugarbook.
However, the service itself sparked an uproar after statistics showed that it was supporting thousands of students to make money off of it. With Malaysia being a socially conservative country, many universities condemned its operations.
Due to this, police sought out and arrested its 34-year-old founder at a Kuala Lumpur condominium. Based on an article from ABS-CBN, police investigated claims of prostitution and misuse of the internet.
But, they did not name the man they arrested. Still, many believe that it was Darren Chan, who is listed as the founder and CEO of Sugarbook. Meanwhile, Chan released a statement earlier saying that the government knew what was best for the people.
