Take-Home Ashes Available For Ash Wednesday To Family Heads
TAKE-HOME ASHES AVAILABLE – According to the Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), heads of the family can take ashes from the churches home to their families.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, several compromises have been made to ensure the safety of the public. Among these was allowing ashes used in Ash Wednesday to be taken home.
According to an article from Inquirer, Baguio Bishop Victor Bendico, those who couldn’t attend the masses could request a sachet containing “blessed ash”. Afterward, they could “impose it to their families” while watching the online mass, he added.
Those who cannot come to church on this day can join the celebration of the Mass on Ash Wednesday on television and online means. They then receive the ashes from their family members who were able to go to church … and bring home ashes for them
Additionally, the CBCP said that devotees that can’t attend could also use ashes from dried branches or leaves of plants or trees. The CBCP explained that due to the pandemic, a large number of parishes found difficulty on securing old palm branches blessed in Palm Sunday 2020.
Meanwhile, when it comes to devotees going into the churches, the CBCP said they would sprinkle ashes on their foreheads. Meanwhile, another method is using cotton balls in applying the cross mark on a devotee’s forehead, a different one for each faithful.
