iQiyi Issues Apology and Removes Chinese Drama “Make My Heart Smile” Over Offensive Remarks to Filipinos
iQiyi has apologized and removed the controversial Chinese drama “Make My Heart Smile” over its offensive “Filipino Maid” remarks.
Over the past few days, the Filipino people lambasted the Chinese drama “Make My Heart Smile” for using “Filipino maid” as an insult in his dialogue. The leading actor said “You look like a Filipino maid” to his on-screen partner.
The actress is trying different outfit for the actor’s approval but the leading man seems to oppose her clothes until he released the controversial dialogue, which sparks outrage among the Filipino netizens.
Recently, the Streaming platform iQiyi discovered the online outrage happening due to the alleged offensive remarks used by the Chinese actor, which offended the Filipino domestic helpers.
iQiyi apologized to the audience, which upset the Filipio subscriber and decided to remove the drama series from the platform. The online site also ensured the audience to prevent such incidents.
“We are aware of the growing reactions to a scene on the show that we have licensed – ‘MAKE MY HEART SMILE’ – that puts Filipina overseas workers in a negative light. It is not our intention to offend and upset our Filipino subscribers and we are sorry. The show has been removed from the platform and we are continuously working towards making sure that incidents like this do not happen again,” iQiyi said.
