Duterte Reveals 89 Barangay Chairpersons Under Preventive Suspension

DUTERTE – Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte said around 89 barangay chairpersons are under preventive suspension by Ombudsman.

Amid the COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines, a lot of Filipino families were aided through the Social Amelioration Program. More commonly called as SAP, it provided certain amounts to Filipino households in several areas in the country.

The SAP fund is apart from the loan moratoriums implemented amid the crisis in the country. Many people struggled financially after losing work and their source of income.

Many businesses were not able to thrive with the demands of the COVID-19 pandemic. For several weeks, some businesses were not able to operate incurring only expenses with no income.

Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has always been vocal that corruption has no room under his administration. Recently, he spoke about the barangay chairpersons linked to anomalies with regards to the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Duterte revealed that around 89 barangay chairpersons are under preventive suspension now by the Office of the Ombudsman due to SAP corruption issues.

The President reiterated that he has previously warned barangay chairpersons that the fund released by the government was for the poor and they must not mess with it.

Now, ito suspendido for six months, then mag-hearing sa kaso mo,” the Chief Executive said.

Based on the report, Pres. Duterte requested Ombudsman Samuel Martires to dismiss from service those who will be proven guilty of corruption. According to him, they cannot run for any position in the barangay again.

The President once again warned mayors not to get involved in corruption as the government will have them pay for it.
