Engineer Arrested Over Illegal Logging In Pamplona Town, Cagayan
PAMPLONA – An engineer was recently arrested for alleged illegal logging along a riverbank in Pamplona town in Cagayan province.
The cops recently discovered stocked sawn lumber in Barangay Abbangkeruan and later seized these, according to a report form Inquirer.
The suspect was identified as Felicimo Bilas, aged 52, a municipal engineer in the area and a resident of Barangay Allasitan.
Bilas admitted to owning the lumber. He would eventually be charged with violation of the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines, based on the report.
In another illegal logging report, last year, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources were urged by President Rodrigo Duterte to investigate illegal mining and logging activities in Cagayan Valley.

Duterte also told DENR to find a way to place homes in a safer place should they fail to fully stop the illegal activities.
The department said that they have issued cease-and-desist orders against small-scale mining operations.
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba said that the floods in the province was caused by the “denudation of forests” and “siltation of rivers” and was not just due to the spilling from the Magat Dam alone.
