Traslacion Devotees Urged To Self-Quarantine After Flocking To Attend Mass
TRASLACION DEVOTEES – Attendees of the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo were urged to self-quarantine and avoid going to public places.
According to Dr. Anna Ong-Lim, the recent mass gathering near Quiapo Church could potentially become a super-spreader event. Based on an interview with Teleradyo, Lim said:
“Kung pumunta ka, well better talaga na mag-self-quarantine… but we know that’s quite difficult. Siguro practical application is huwag na masyadong maggagala para mabawasan ang iyong potential contact”
Lim explained that the public shouldn’t count out the possibility that somebody in the crowd was infected with COVID-19. She added that those who joined the event should take extra precautions following the next 14 days. “Hindi tayo masyadong maraming idinadamay. Kung wala, eh ‘di maganda”, she said.
Even with the threat of the new coronavirus, reports said around 400,000 people attended the event in Quiapo Church and its vicinity. However, the Philippine National Police said health protocols such as physical distancing were followed.
Meanwhile, photos and videos circulating on social media may say otherwise. Moreover, the Manila DRRMO reported that at least three devotees suddenly collapsed during Traslacion 2021 or the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
Additionally, Devotees who attended the event claimed that there was major confusion regarding the social distancing form. According to a report from DZBB, some of the devotees struggled to grab their own contact tracing form. As such, this led to some devotees snatching forms just to get inside the Church compound.
