Pittacus is a statesman and sage and one of the seven sages who collaborated with the brothers of the poet Alcaeus in the overthrow of the tyrant Melanchrus

He distinguished himself as a commander in the war against Athens for Sigium and slain the Athenian commander, Phrynon. His great motto is “Whatever you do, do it well.”
