PHIVOLCS Says No Tsunami Threat To PH After Chile Earthquake
PHIVOLCS SAYS NO TSUNAMI THREAT – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said there was no threat of tsunamis crashing toward the PH after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Chile.
Early Monday Morning, at 5:39 A.M., “a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 occurred off the coast of Central Chile. Furthermore, Phivolcs said the quake was located 39.3 oS, 75.0 oW with a depth of 10 km.
However, even with the strong quake, no destructive tsunami threats exist says the bureau. Meanwhile from within the Philippines, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake shook Davao Occidental on the same day.
Previously, on April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.
According to reports, the quake hit Davao at around 6:14 A.M., December 28, 2020. Moreover, the earthquake affected Sarangani. Additionally, the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 057 kilometers.
