Kuya Kim, Gretchen Ho Advocate For No Face Shields While Biking

NO FACE SHIELDS – Biking had become ever popular amid the pandemic, however, with the increased health protocols, bikers raised their own concerns.

Much like the issue with the plastic barrier, long-time bikers such as Kuya Kim and Gretchen Ho said face shields aren’t necessary when biking. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Ho explained “Talagang di safe iyan kasi, alam mo naman, di ba pati sa pag-angkas lang iyang plastik-plastik di talaga nakakatulong“.

Meanwhile, Kuya Kim explained that cyclists, by default, already do physical distancing. “Mayroon na silang mask, mayroon pa silang shield. Baka himatayin na iyong mga cyclists na pumupunta sa trabaho”, he added.

No Face Shields While Biking – Kuya Kim, Gretchen Ho Explains

Kuya Kim is well-known as a cycling enthusiast. In Fact, he entered several triathlon and duathlon competitions. With this in mind, Atienza explained that it has become difficult to race with a mask on. Furthermore, he expressed that adding a face shield would make it even more so.

As per the article, Atienza said:

They (cyclists) don’t like to use public transport because it is more prone to the COVID-19 infection due to the lack of proper physical distancing. They include some of our frontliners who go to work daily

Additionally, Kuya Kim said that when it came to racing, those in the competition can never be “shoulder-to-shoulder”. Moreover, he asserted that there is “proper physical distancing” as you might trip or stumble while racing close together.

Atienza noted that a key member of the Inter-Agency Task Force, Bases Conversion Development Authority president and chief executive officer Vince Dizon himself is a cycling enthusiast. As such, he hoped that Dizon would hear cyclists out and exempt them from the face shield protocol.
