NBI Raids Warehouses Containing Fake Insecticide Products

The National Bureau of Investigation seized fake insecticide products containing harmful substances after raiding warehouses and stores.

NBI operatives confiscated boxes of fake insecticide sprays in four areas including Lucena in Quezon, Cavite, Batangas and Manila. The authorities conducted the raid after receiving complaints from the original manufacturer of the products.

The agency explained that the fake products have wrong spelling for the brand and has no Food and Drug Administration number. They also warned the public that the counterfeit spray may pose risk to consumer’s health.

Tacloban Worldsun Trading assistant manager Jasmine Chua said that the consumers may save money from buying fake insect repellant products but might cost more for the hospitalization and medication.

“Ang chemical contents po nito ay hindi po aprubado ng FDA at sobrang napaka, kumbaga, lubhang mapanganib sa kalusugan ng tao, imbes na makatipid po sila, malaki po ang magagastos nila sa hospitalization,” Chua said.

NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division chief Glenn Ricarte said that they would file a case against individuals who were involve in production of fake products. Violators could face violation of trademark infringement.
