2 US Pharmas Ready To Supply PH 25 Million COVID-19 Vaccines
2 US PHARMAS READY TO SUPPLY – According to a Philippine Envoy, two of the top Pharmas in the United States are ready to supply the Philippines with 25 million vaccine doses.
Earlier, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin mentioned that somebody “dropped the ball” in the Pfizer vaccine Deal. Following this, Senator Panfilo Lacson revealed that it was Health Secretary Francisco Duque who did so.
Lacson said Duque never passed the requirements needed to push through with the Pfizer deal. However, Duque emphasized that there were no promises from Pfizer to supply the country with the vaccine.
Following this, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez said Moderna and Arcturus were willing to supply the country with 4 to 25 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccines.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, Romualdez said:
We are hoping our government will consider the promising candidates of Moderna and Arcturus for inclusion in our country’s pool of anti-COVID vaccines
After Pfizer, Moderna was one of the leading names in the race for a COVID-19 vaccine. Furthermore, its vaccine is set to receive emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration in the U.S. after staff declared the vaccine as safe and effective.
Still, the Philippines is currently set on procuring 4 vaccine candidates in the first quarter of 2021. Based on a statement from Harry Roque, these vaccines are from: “Russia’s Gamaleya Institute and China’s Sinovac, Sinopharm and CanSino”.
Afterward, the country aims to procure a vaccine from British Pharma AstraZeneca. Meanwhile, the vaccines from Pfizer, Covax, Johnson & Johnsons, and Moderna are expected to arrive in the Philippines during the third quarter.
