Police Officer From Iloilo City Charged For Pawning Firearm

ILOILO CITY – A police officer from Iloilo City ,ay face criminal charges for pawning his government-issued firearm.

According to a report from Panay News, the cop, identified as Police Corporal Val Allan Lisay, who is assigned at the Police Regionoal Office 6 headquarters, admitted that he pawned his  .9mm pistol.

This came from a statement by Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson.

Lisay later found out that his pawned firearm was used to shoot a Chinese businessman on Iznart Street just last month.

The cop redeemed the gun and personally turned it over to the PRO-6, the spokesperson said.

On November 12, the Chinese national, identified as Wei La Zing of Barangay Ma. Clara, City Proper, was robbed and shot to death.

The suspect, identified as Andy Mahinay, to whom Lisay said he pawned, was arrested.

Mahinay initially admitted that the gun was used on Wei was owned by the cop but later denied it.

Police probers subjected the gun to cross-matching and ballistic examinations, with the results showing that the bullets recovered from the scene were identical to that of the cop’s gun, based on the report.

Malong added that Lisay will be held liable as accessory to the crime since his gun was used in a crime and for grave misconduct.

The PRO-6 warned its staff not to pawn government-owned properties, especially guns.
