‘Matapobre’ Mother Degrading Service Crew Earned Criticisms Online
MATAPOBRE MOTHER- A female service crew was degraded by a mother to be a ‘ninang’ of her child after expecting she earns big salary working abroad.
It has been a part of Filipino culture that when holding a baptism, parents would always invite their friends to be the godparent of their children. Also, children’s godparents are obliged to give gifts or money especially when the holiday season comes.

The main role of godparents is not to give gifts but to serve as “co-parents” or help parents in caring for children. However, other parents’ intent to get a godparent who has a stable and wealthy status to demand expensive favors.
In a Facebook post by netizen Kath, she shared their conversation with the woman who was supposed to take her as ‘ninang’ of soon to be baptized child. But she immediately changed her mind after knowing Kath’s job was only ‘service crew’.
In the screenshots shared by Kath, it can be read the mother is seemingly rude to degrade her. According to the mother, she thought that Kath was working in the office so she said she wanted to take her as the child’s godmother,

But when she found out that Kath was working at the restaurant, she changed her mind. The mother said, she thought she had a good job abroad with a big salary.

Kath, on the other hand, answered this and said that the ‘matapobre’ mother’s child is unfortunate because she is doing her child’s godparents as a source of income.


Meanwhile, her post has gone viral on social media, it reached 6.8k reactions and 9.1k shares as we write this story. Netizens also slammed the ‘ninong, ninang’ culture of Filipino. Also, they criticized abusive parents who act like ‘matapobre’ in picking godparents.
