Vaccine Watchdogs Concerned As Rich Countries Begin Hoarding Coronavirus Vaccines
RICH COUNTRIES HOARDING VACCINE – According to the People’s Vaccine Alliance, rich countries have begun to hoard coronavirus vaccines.
Furthermore, the group says that some countries have enough doses of the new vaccines to immunize their population three times over. Meanwhile, the group drew concerns that developing countries are unfortunately left behind because of this.
Currently, the coronavirus vaccine still remains rampant in several countries. According to an article from CNN, in 67 poorer nations, merely 10 people have a chance to get vaccinated by the end of next year.
However, in most developed countries, a surplus of vaccines was ordered. Furthermore, nations that represent around 14% of the world’s population have begun to stock-up more than half of the new COVID-19 vaccines.
As per the article, the group said:
No one should be blocked from getting a life-saving vaccine because of the country they live in or the amount of money in their pocket…
But unless something changes dramatically, billions of people around the world will not receive a safe and effective vaccine for COVID-19 for years to come
The vaccine watchdog cited countries such as Britain and Canada as some of the rich countries that have begun hoarding the vaccine. Moreover, they said that in Canada, there are enough doses to immunize Canadians five times over.
Meanwhile, the Philippine government stated that it would prioritize procurement of China’s Sinovac coronavirus vaccine first. Following this, the country is set to procure Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine at around Q2 or Q3 of 2021.
