Four Lions at Barcelona Zoo Found Positive of Coronavirus Symptoms

FOUR LIONS- Lions at Barcelona zoo were added to the list of animals found positive with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) symptoms.

According to the report of ABS-CBN News, three older females and one male lion found suffering from mild symptoms of coronavirus. Catalan animal park said, their keepers noticed their “mild respiratory symptoms.”

The three females ages 16-years-old and the male is 4-year-old. The symptoms emerged as two of their keepers tested positive for the virus. 

“The four lions were tested with the viral antigen detection kit… and were found to be positive,” the zoo said. The lions were seen having difficulty in breathing, coughing, and sneezing.

They were immediately treated with anti-inflammatories and closely monitored under a protocol similar to that for the flu, and “responded positively”. All their symptoms disappeared within a fortnight.

To prevent the virus from being caught, their keepers wore FFP3 masks, visor plexiglass, and protective footwear, and lowered them into the enclosure with a halter.

The zoo also contacted “international experts such as the Bronx Zoo veterinary service in New York, the only one to document a case of Sars-CoV-2 infection in large cats.”

Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak, lots of animals were tested positive for coronavirus. Home animals such as cats and dogs were reportedly suffering from the virus symptoms, while others are asymptomatic.
