Total Ban on Firecrackers Might be Imposed in 2021, President Duterte Says
President Duterte is planning to implement a total ban on firecrackers in 2021 for a safer celebration of the Yuletide season.
Mr. Rodrigo Duterte announced that firecrackers might be totally banned in the country by next year. He is planning to release a proclamation declaring the ban of firecrackers during the mid of 2021.
The Philippine President cited the safe celebration of holiday season in his hometown Davao City after declaring a total ban of firecrackers in the city. He said that Davao City has zero records of casualties due to the firecrackers.
“Baka next December, ibawal ko na ang putok . . . for reasons of public safety . . . because it is really a dangerous thing, Sa amin, maganda man New Year, Pasko. We celebrate it with the family may music, lahat na. Gaiety and all, Walang nagsusugatan, walang namamatay,” Duterte said during his weekly address.
Previously, the Metro Manila Council announced that they would regulate fireworks displays to prevent the gathering of people amid the coronavirus pandemic. The city government also banned Christmas parties and traditional caroling this year.
The 75-year-old president urged the Filipino people throughout the country to observe the quarantine guidelines and health protocols during the holiday season. He also said that this maybe the only year wherein holiday celebrations will be regulated due to the health crisis.
