Residents Living Near Riverbanks in Lucena City Alerted for Possible Floods & Evacuations

Lucena City Disaster Management Office has alerted the residents in the area for possible floods and evacuations.

On Friday morning (December 4, 2020), the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) reported that the water along the banks of Iyam River has started to swell due to incessant heavy rains.

DRRMO said that the river spillway located in Barangay 5 has been already flooded and vehicles could not pass anymore. The agency also advised the residents to be more aware of their surroundings.

“Paalaala sa mga mabababang lugar na binabaha lalo na ang mga nasa baybayin ng ilog na maging handa at alisto,” DRRMO said.

Village councilor Mcram Rago. Has also posted an image of the flooded spillway along the area.

The residents have been alerted for possible evacuation to prevent casualties due to flooding like what happened to Marikina City, Cagayan and Isabela a few weeks ago.

In October 2020, Iyam and Dumacaa River have overflowed due to heavy rains, which caused two incidents of consecutive flash floods. The flooding displaced around 500 families residing near the rivers.
