PERSEUS CONSTELLATION – In this topic, we are going to know and learn about the Northern constellation Perseus.
It is a northern constellation named after the hero Perseus in the Greek mythology. It is well known for its Perseid meteor shower.
Constellation Guide says that it is also home to Algol, Beta Persei, Messier 34, the Double Cluster, California Nebula, and Little Dumbbell Nebula.
It is the the 24th largest constellation in the sky, occupying an area of 615 square degrees. It can be found in NQ1, the first quadrant in the northern hemisphere.
It belongs to the Perseus family, which includes Andromeda, Auriga, Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Cetus, Lacerta, Pegasus, and Triangulum.
Its brightest star is Mirphak and is associated with two meteor showers: the Perseids and the September Perseids.
In Greek Mythology, Perseus is the son of Danaë, daughter of King Acrisius, and the Greek god of Olympuus Zeus. He is the hero of the well-known story associated with him known as “The Gorgon’s Head”, where he killed the gorgon Medusa.
