Bantayan Island Airport In Cebu Is Now Open
BANTAYAN ISLAND – Bantayan Island, which is among Cebu’s famous destinations, can now be accesed by air as it recently opened its airport.
The authorities of both national and local governments on Friday have inaugurated the newly upgraded airport of the said island, according to a report from Inquirer.
This marked the completion of extending its 900-meter runway to 1.2 kilometers, as well as its own terminal in order to accomodeat commercial flights.
This also welcomed three maiden flights by various airline companies, which departed from the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
The now upgraded airport (BIA) would also mean that traveling to the island would be reduced from five hours via bus and ferry to 30 minutes via air.
Among those present in the inauguration include Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Presidential Assistant to the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino, MCIA Authority General Manager Steve Dicdican, Department of Tourism in Central Visayas (DOT-7) Director Shalimar Talino, Madridejos mayor Salvador Dela Fuente, Santa Fe mayor Ethamar Espinosa , and Bantayan mayor Arthur Despi.
The upgrading of the said airport in Santa Fe started in June 2019. This was spearheaded by the Capitol and MCIAA.
Garcia and Dicdican said that they are looking forward to the fast recovery of Bantayan Island’s tourism industry.
The inauguration was followed by Suroy-Suroy Sugbo in Bantayan called SMB Escapade by the Capitol. SMB stands for the three towns Santa Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan.
