Ateneo de Manila University is working on a new college unit
The Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) is set to establish teacher education in 2021 and this will be done by introducing a new college unit.
Throughout the years, the education system in the Philippines has coped up with the modern ways. Amid the pandemic, new challenges were also faced by education institutions. These challenges have become part of the new normal when it comes to learning.
Based on the article from ABS-CBN, Ateneo will be introducing a new unit in college in the next academic year. Last November 7, the Board of Trustees of the Ateneo de Manila University conducted a meeting, It has been approved that a School of Education and Learning Design (SEALD) will be created for next year.
This will be the fifth Loyola School which is composed of School of Humanities, John Gokongwei School of Management, School of Science and Engineering, and School of Social Sciences.
SEALD will be placed under the school’s education department. Currently, this is under the School of Social Sciences. Two new programs will be added to the new college unit – the Ateneo Teacher Center, the Ateneo SALT Institute, and Pathways for Higher Education.
This project of the Ateneo de Manila University for next year was prompted by the poor performance of Filipino in 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment.
“As its name suggests, its programs will promote the science and art of designing learning – an increasingly crucial competence among educators working in formal education, as well as among learning professionals in fields other than formal education,” university president Fr. Roberto Yap said in a statement.
