And now, in a sit down one-one-one interview with good friend Aiko Melendez who calls him “Mayor Manong”, he revealed that as a major sponsor of the Miss Universe 2016 hosted by the Philippines in January 2017, he spent a very hefty amount. He recalled that doing business with the Miss Universe Organization was quite hard. They knew him as a politician but not as a businessman. Initially, they explained to him he has to spend six million [dollars] which he agreed and a down payment of one million dollars which is non-refundable.

He went through strict processes with the organization wanting to ensure the money for the pageant before closing the deal and signing the contract. This huge amount is from him alone and excluding the amount from other sponsors. He said as per video, “Baka di ko raw gastusin. Ganoon kaistrikto. So, nagdeposito ako. Nagbigay ulit ako six million. So, 12 million [dollars in total].”

Singson then clarified that he is not the owner of the new franchise, just “tumutulong lang”. He revealed, “No. Binibigay nga sa akin. Pero hindi na… hindi ko na… hindi na kailangan. ‘Tutulong na lang ako,’ kako. Pero ngayon, binibigay sa akin, maski saan mundo ngayon, wala nang deposito. Noon pinagdedeposito ako. Ngayon, may discount pa.”
