Boycott Warner Brothers Trends After Animaniacs Appeared To Mock Johnny Depp
BOYCOTT WARNER BROTHERS TRENDS – Following the reboot of Warner Brothers’ animation arm, Animaniacs, the studio was bombarded with negative comments.
On Friday, Animaniacs, produced by Steven Spielberg, returned to Hulu. Many enjoyed the return of the series however, some weren’t too happy about a little Easter egg they placed inside the show.
A cartoon poster was spotted on the show that appeared to be mocking Johnny Depp. The caricature of Depp’s image, along with his name, was promoting a movie called, Jonny 2: “Telling Lies”.
Although there are no confirmed details yet, the poster has been linked to Depp’s recent lawsuit loss against “The Sun”, who described him as a wife-beater. After the lost lawsuit, Depp had been forced to drop his role as Grindelwald in the “Fantastic Beasts” series, which is also under Warner Brothers.
As such, netizens on social media platforms on Twitter detested Animaniacs recent “stunt”. One Twitter user said:
Warner Brothers: this is a sick thing to do to an abuse survivor. Listen to the tapes – Johnny Depp has been put through psychological torture and physical abuse. I’m sorry that I don’t find this funny, but it’s no laughing matter.
However, several other netizens claimed that the animation was made around 2 years ago. Unfortunately, because of the lengthy animation process, it was only released now.
According to some netizens, the animation was part of parody of the “Johnny Johnny, Yes Papa, nursery rhyme” and had nothing to do with Depp’s recent case.
