Taiwan Donates Over P10M To Help Government Response Following Ulysses
TAIWAN DONATES OVER P10M – The government of Taiwan along with the Taiwan Association Inc. made a combined donation of over P10 million pesos to the Philippines.
Recently, the Philippines was ravaged by Typhoon Ulysses that caused massive flooding in Luzon. Among the areas most affected were Marikina and Catanduanes.
As such, several groups and concerned individuals from the Philippines banded together to make donations for the victims. Along with this, several foreign bodies such as Taiwan also helped with the government’s response efforts.
According to an article from Inquirer, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) said they’d given $200,000 on behalf of their government. Afterward, ice Chairman Gilberto F. Lauengco of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), received the amound.
When converted to our currency, MECO initially received P9.6M. Additionally, the cultural office also received another donation worth P700,000 from the Taiwan Association Inc.
As per the article, TECO stated:
As the closest neighbor of the Philippines, Taiwan expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families which lost their beloved ones in the aforementioned tragic disasters and extend a helping hand to the Philippines for its rehabilitation and recovery work
However, this isn’t the first instance wherein Taiwan helped out the Philippines. Earlier in the year, Taiwan gave the Philippines much-needed assistance as COVID-19 began to spread in the country. Taiwan donated face masks, face shields, and personal protective equipment.
